iOS 6 Tip: Gifting an App from the App Store Right from Your iOS Device

When Apple released iOS 6, along came a redesigned App Store. Even though the new design brought Facebook integration, Apple removed one important option, gifting. There was no way to gift an app from the App Store, unless you did it from a computer straight from iTunes.

Thankfully, Apple recently updated the Sharing options in the App Store to include gifting without the actual need to update the OS.

So how can you gift apps to friends and family? Simply follow these steps.

  1. Open the App Store app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 6
  2. Search the app you want to give away (of course has to at least cost $0.99)
  3. Once you find it, tap on it to open the description page of the app
  4. On the app's page, you will see a share button at the top right.
5. Tap on the share button to see the sharing options. Among those sharing options you will see a Gift icon
  6. Tap the Gift button and a windows will come up where you can put the email of the person you wish to give the app to; your name and email is already populated. You will have the opton to add a message and also to select whether you want the app to be sent right away or if you want it to be sent on a later date.
  7. When you are finished tap "Next"

This is perfect for these holidays. You can gift apps to friends and family members of every age and likes.
